|Title||Marcus Curtiss Papers|
|Scope & Content||
Papers of Marcus Curtiss (1780-1868), the Innkeeper and possibly the first Postmaster of Genoa Township, which is located in Delaware County, Ohio. The collection comes in three parts: 1) loose books, 2) a metallic breadbox filled with newspapers, and 3) an archive box filled with various correspondence materials.
The archive box also includes photocopies of more recent Curtiss family history, a ledger dated 1800-1821, various financial receipts, and what appears to be a surveyor's field notes.
Most of the collection consists of folded and aged correspondence bundled into various small groupings. Approximately 50 letters have been unfolded and placed in sleeves.
There are some supplemental materials which were evidently provided by Leta Curtiss (1897-1995) and range from newspaper articles about the Curtiss Inn, to various genealogical documents and essays. Some of the letters have been transcribed and annotated.
