Jane M. Case Hospital |
Description |
Post card of the Jane M. Case Hospital at the intersection of West Winter and North Franklin streets. Case was deeply involved in the medical community, as her husband was a Columbus physician who worked with Delaware physician Dr. John A. Little. She moved to Delaware after her husband's death in 1888 and resided there until her death in 1904. During that time she frequently discussed the need for a local hospital with her physician Dr. A. J. Willey. Upon her death, Case designated funds for charitable purposes. Willey petitioned the trustees of her estate to use the funds for a Delaware hospital. His success led to the purchase of the home of Edwin G. Lybrand for $8,500 in August, 1904. The building was rennovated and opened as the Jane M. Case hospital on July 21, 1906. Originally, the building had twenty-two rooms, including an operating room, nine private rooms, and three wards. Due to increasing demand, in later years the hospital was expanded. The building is now refered to as the Andrews House. |
